Do you ever feel there are days when you’re spinning plates or jumping through hoops? I was thinking about that this evening as I watched our family dog jump through the waves. She occasionally took them in her stride, but more often than not, her timing was a little bit out! She overstretched at times as the wave came too soon.
I was thinking that we all have days like these, when there’s just too much to do and we find ourselves in “doing mode”, and don’t really have time just to be in the moment.
I feel a little bit guilty that while I was absolutely in the moment watching her appraise each wave, I was practising a little little bit of mindfulness. I found myself in the rhythm of the waves. I found myself occasionally watching the horizon - the sea and the sky becoming one. My breathing became more relaxed, as I let go of the day’s worries. My to-do list put itself into the background and I just watched and enjoyed her play.
Taking the time to be in the moment is basically what mindfulness is.
I’m including a photograph I took at the end of her busyness. Where she just lies and relaxes in her own sea Jacuzzi. As my hero Frasier would say, I wish you all good mental health.
